Perimeter Institute Waterloo

It has been a busy couple of days! Which is great for us we love what we do. We are very grateful to all our friends and family. Sometimes it's not possible to have our regular performers, because life happens.
Vacation, a passing of a family member. But we are blessed with very talented family and friends. We say Nia:wen Ko:wa , which is a Big thank you!

Here's some pictures from the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo

I tried one theory joke but it was a fail lol.

Naomi handled the Mc-ing duties & Leland handled the Powwow style of singing. He did an amazing job.

Kate took care of Jingle and Fancy, here she is waiting off stage. Thinking of the Powwow she is going to right after the show.

Kristen has been handling the Hoop Dancing!!

The days of Hoop dancing for Naomi are almost over :) Yee-Hawaaa lol

This was a such a great show, very proud. Although I didn't get any dancing pics of myself.  I am proud to say I danced Fancy, Grass, and sang Esconye' and Smoke dance.

Conestoga Youth & Elder Conference

There was a lot of reminiscing between Cheryl & Naomi about the good ol' days. They have known each other from childhood, they powwowed together , used to dance in shows together.  Cheryl is Naomi's Bestie. lol. Cheryl is also a  Champion Jingle dress dancer as well as Smoke dancer.

Just a little background info on some of the dancers that have been with us for the last few shows.

Cheryl - Bestie lol Jammin out!

Leland Redeagle is dancing Prairie Chicken. He has been taking care of our singing duties! Champion Singer & Dancer.  Leland is married to Cheryl.

Jacob  "Lil Big Show" took care of Mens Fancy! Hi-chaaa he danced awesome!

Naomi always smiling when dancing, love the way she dances.

Leland taking some leads with Ohnia:kara, it was a really good jam session.

Thanks to the Organizers for Inviting us to this amazing event.

Fancy Dancing for the Rochester Knighthawks

I am not yet fully healed from my ankle sprain last week so I didn't get to dance at the Knighthawks game last night.  This was good only because I was able to get out on the turf to film it.  I hope you enjoy the footage.

The group looked great!  I wish the game had turned out differently as The Knighthawks lost to The Edmonton Rush 11-9 but I still enjoyed every minute.  The next home game is March 30, 2013.  If you live in the Rochester area or just want to see some awesome Professional Lacrosse action then come out and check out the game.  They will be facing the Toronto Rock.

Little NHL opening Ceremonies

Last night the group participated in the opening of the Little Native Hockey League tournament at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.  We did a smoke dance then came back to dance to a Tribe Called Red track during the finale concert.  The place was packed and the energy was electric. Too bad I sprained my ankle on the way to the event. I was so glad Kaitlyn was able to fill in for me extremely last minute. Check out our experience!

As much as I wanted to dance, it was really fun dressing Kaitlyn in my outfit and sending her out to perform.  I was so grateful to run into her when we arrived at the venue.

Adrian, once again doing his thing.

The MC for the event was Cec Sault.  He did a great job keeping things moving along.

Cheri Maracle sang the National Anthem in both English and in Mohawk.  That was pretty cool as I had never heard that done before.

One of the coolest things about the event was that Don Cherry was there to wish the athletes and organizers well.  Now that is a snazzy jacket.

Lisa Odjig was also Hoop Dancing at the event.  You may remember her from Canada's Got Talent last season.

There was a lot of really cool entertainment last night.  Jace Martin, a b-boy crew and a hand drum group from New Credit First Nation were all there.  During the Tribe Called Red finale concert people were dancing all over the place.  It was really fun to watch the mascots from the different teams dancing up a storm.

TCDSB - St Gabriel Lalemant

As we start towards Scarborough we are very thankful for the H.O.V lanes.  As everyone knows about traffic at morning rush hour!! We arrive at the school and immediately meet Richard (custodian), he was an integral part of us being there, and us putting on a fantastic show.

Naomi, Richard, Brian
Richard made sure everything ran smooth, lighting was just right.  Also shared some stories.

Packed house, great energy! After our show we had 3 workshops which were so much fun!!!!

When the workshops are done we like to give the students opportunity to ask questions and some of these questions were the best of the year so far.

Thanks for a great day!!!!  Nia:wen Ko:wa   GO Stingers!!!!

Being Tourists in the Rain

Once we finished the ArtStarts conference here in Vancouver we decided to do some sight seeing.  It was a beautiful rainy day so we headed out to Stanley Park.  On our way there we saw this really cool art installation.

The park is gorgeous.  I couldn't believe the number of people I saw running even in the rain.  It took a few minutes for all the runners to pass so that I could get this city skyline shot.

From a distance I thought this was a real person perched on a rock.  I thought to myself "Wow, she is tough".  Yes, I am gullible.

The colours of the trees and moss is very sci fi like.  For parts of the park I was waiting for the ewoks to come out of the bush.

Since we were in Stanley Park we decided to go to the Vancouver Aquarium.  We arrived just in time for the Beluga Whale show.

If you are at an aquarium it would be just plain wrong to not go and see the dolphins.

Derek made a new friend.  I think that fish was actually asleep.  He didn't move at all.  This felt like one of those frat party photos you take of your sleeping buddies.  lol.

At the entrance to the Aquarium there was an exhibit of different types of Jellyfish.

Isn't he just the cutest thing you have ever seen?
