Rochester Knighthawks

So our family was asked to come and dance at the Home Opener of the Knighthawks.  We and a few other fancy dancers did a real quick dance to start things off.  The kids had such an amazing time that I'm pretty sure we will be back.  Sadly, the Knighthawks lost to the Buffalo Bandits but the energy was incredible.  The Blue Cross Arena was packed.

I want to thank everyone involved that had us out because that was such a great experience.  I am so grateful for these wonderful opportunities to share with the kids.  If you have never been to a NLL game you should know that the pace is very fast and the fans are very dedicated.  I love that there is music playing throughout the game.  You as a fan are always engaged.  So come check out a game or look for one on Sportsnet.  In all honesty you won't be disappointed.

The 8th Fire

I truly hope that you are taking the time to watch this fantastic series on CBC.  This is a four part series and the final episode is next Thursday February 4, 2012.  You can find the first 3 episodes through the link here.

The 8th Fire

This series is so important for people to watch.  I hope it starts conversations and explains somethings for Canadians about the diversity of Native life in this country.  So many people don't even realize we still exist let alone that we have different views and ways of doing things.  I have heard more times than I wish to count, "but aren't all the Indians extinct?".

So check it out, you won't regret it.

Halton Teachers P.A Day - Good Minds.com

Tuesday we had the opportunity to work with some teachers and educators from Halton!  We enjoyed our time with them,  our Sing/Dance workshops are very informative as well as fun.  I think the teachers enjoyed the singing, I really think they sounded fantastic, choir like!  We like to break down some stereotypes in a fun way,  we always get a laugh out how silly these really are.  The teachers were lucky they only had to sing cause if we had some more time they would have had to cut-a-rug!  These Teacher's workshops really give us, and them some great ideas to help the students learn.  In summary if you give the students an opportunity, it doesn't take much for them to get right into an activity the wouldn't normally do.  We are always learning and growing as students of life.  Which leads me into this link New Text Books by Good Minds & Pearson publishing  These two books featured on this link is a must have!!!!!
I really wish we had these when I was in school!!! I have both of these and I am learning more and more each day!! Thanks so much Mr. Jeff Burnham  Keep up the amazing work!

Meeting Bob Rae - Conestoga College

We started out this morning at Conestoga College in Kitchener ON, at a reception to welcome Bob Rae.  I enjoyed listening to everyone who spoke in the circle.  We finished off our short performance with a smoke dance where we had audience participation.  It was awesome to see so many come and dance with us.

We finished out our Most Excellent Friday in Toronto at the Sheraton Centre.  We opened up an awards gala.  The fellas got to drum with a Celtic singer while a cirque troupe performed, that was quite interesting.   We may have been everywhere today but that's just the way we like it.  I love being able to share these experiences with my family.  Happy Friday Everyone.

So far this winter we have been pretty lucky as far as snow and ice is concerned.  I think we have gotten out of practice with how to drive because there were so many accidents being reported on the radio on our drive to Barondale this morning. The picture above shows some pretty sweet artwork on the entrance to the gym.  In person, it is stunning.

We had a great day.  We always hope to have enough time to let the kids ask us anything they want to ask and we have thought we had heard just about everything  but these grade 3 students had some unique and interesting things on their minds.  I love it! What a great start to the weekend.  I hope you enjoy this winter weather everyone..

I found this old article today.  It is about our very first show as a group from waaaaay back in 2009.  That seems like yesterday but so much has changed since then.  The most interesting thing is that we are now an actual group.  In this article we are billed as a group of Six Nations dancers.  At the time we had all thought we were done with performing as we had all been with other groups before and were going to live out our lives with "normal" jobs but people kept calling and asking us to come out so we gave in and created "Tribal Vision".  I am so very happy that we did.

AASK - Arts After School Kids

We went to our local Santa Claus parade last month and saw one float that really stood out.  This float was the AASK - Arts After School Kids entry and it impressed us because it was the only one that had live music.  All the other floats were playing recorded music but this one had the kids playing the instruments and singing the carols.  I thought to myself then, "I wish this existed when I was in school".

I think you should check them out here and see some of the cool things that they are doing.

The Big Smoke

It was an absolutely beautiful day for a trip into Toronto.  Even though it seemed almost spring like Nathan Phillips Square was packed with ice skaters.  I hope they are able to keep the ice in our town long enough for us to have a chance to use it.

We were able to visit with a wildly creative friend of ours while out and about today.  You should check out her work.

Holiday Break Adventures

People who read this blog regularly are aware that we have four children and are therefore fairly busy.  We don't get out to many live shows, so when we heard that Derek Miller would be playing a live show in town with special guests Jesus Murphy we decided we couldn't miss it.

Derek Miller

This show was a lot of fun because it seemed to me that the guys were all having a real good time playing music for the people.  Jesus Murphy doesn't exist anymore they just reformed for one night only.  I am pretty happy to have been able to see them.  I have gone to many concerts large and tiny and I have to say I really like the small intimate shows the best.
