So since i posted a pic of my new hairties in progress, I thought I would post a pic of what they look like now that they are done. I am much happier with these because the scale and colour of them fits better with my overall outfit than the original ones I had made.
I love that I took this picture in a bathroom. It just gives it such a classy quality. LOL.
The guys chilling out waiting for our workshop to begin at Barondale PS.

So it has been a few days since I last posted. We have been busy working on some new partnerships and putting together new workshop and performance ideas. We have some new and exciting things in the works with Grand River Rafting for this summer that we are looking forward to. Work has also been going full steam ahead on our updated multimedia show so I hope that will be finished soon.
We did a performance at a Long Term Care facility a couple of weeks ago that I didn't mention before. That turned out to be really fun because the conversations with the residents after were so interesting. It really is a small world and if you take the time to really listen to people you find connections. I think that is what I like about what I do the most, the connections you make with others.
Yesterday we did the first of two shows for students from University of Western Ontario. Apparently they toured our Reserve and then after they had lunch (catered by Janace Henry) and we performed. I really enjoyed it and I hope they did to. I found it interesting that the majority of the people in attendance were watching with their phones held in the air taking pix and video. It just amused me how times have changed. I mean I never go back and watch the stuff I filmed years ago so it makes me wonder if anyone actually watches the stuff they capture on their phones. Do you?

We performed as a surprise at a wedding reception back in July and we received some photos and some video of our show. I thought that was so nice of the family to give us a copy. I really enjoyed dancing at the reception and looking at these photos makes me miss dancing outdoors. I am really looking forward to powwow season because looking out my windows and seeing all the snow and cold is not my favourite.

Tribal Vision Dance has been doing School shows and Dance/Singing workshops for a while now. We really like how the kids are responding to them! Like all relationships it takes about 5 min, for their initial impression to see whether or not, they're going to like it. Since our group consists of all family and all of us have children, we are used to working with any age students! We like by the end of the workshop they are giving us high fives and Teachers are telling us they are hearing the students walking down the hall singing. Teachers really like how the show and workshops flow and keep the students engaged, all the while the students are learning. The team building part of our workshop, you can see the leadership and the creativity start working! Students really like to take what they have learned and show it off. Students learning to celebrate their difference, we believe will make a lasting impression. As for the Multimedia show right off the start we dismiss some stereotypes about Native American people. Which I think puts some students at ease. Our Multimedia Show is informative it has just the right mix of entertainment plus interaction with audience and adding the visual component completes the Show! Our show is an hour long and we have students from kindergarten to High school age and older enjoying and engaged. This makes us feel we are on the right track. A lot of the time audiences will be into the show so much, the rhythm of the drum has them clapping along, or encouraging us on by cheering. We cover a lot of different elements in the show, I think that's what makes the hour go by so fast! Well thanks for listening to our thoughts and if you get a chance or if you've seen the show please leave us a comment or what we would really would like is send us some candid pics of a performance or workshop that you have! We will continually strive to make the show and workshops better! Because if you stand still long enough you will realize your actually moving backwards.

You only have until Friday to enter our raffle to win a dance workshop. We will be drawing on Saturday. As that is almost done I was wondering what people who look at our site are interested in. If there is something you would like to know email me and I will do a post around that. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I must start this post by saying "I love my job"! We had a great time once again. We worked with the grade 3 students. I liked this sign they had up on the wall in the gym. I also liked that these students were really good at working together. When we broke them up into groups they didn't need much adult help at all. They just did their own thing and that was great.
Derek wore his Christmas present for the first time. It looks great and we only have to make him a harness to complete the set.
I have been working on a harness for Luke for a few weeks now and I am not finished yet, hopefully one more week and I will be all done. This is the work in progress.
My hairties that I made for my outfit are really for someone with way more hair than I have. Soooo I had to make new ones for my teeny tiny braids. They are now finished and I will be able to start using them next week. Yay me!

Derek and I went for 2 great trail runs so far this year. It has been perfect weather for it! I hope we are able to take part in some 5 peaks trail races this year. Everyone in the family can take part as they have distances for all ages.
I am working on a grass dance harness for Luke. I was hoping to have it done by now but time got away from me over the holidays. I will post pix soon. We are looking forward to doing a dance workshop at Barondale PS on Thursday, I can't wait to get back to work. The Holidays are fun but I love what I do and I miss working with the kids.
Don't forget about our Holiday raffle. You have 12 days left to leave your school name and city in Ontario on our Facebook wall to be entered to win a dance workshop.
